2. News 10 Watershed Protection Campaign
Since 2000, the SRWP has had a partnership with News10, the Sacramento ABC affiliate. Through this partnership, the SRWP provides base funding to its PR consultant, MMC communications, to solicit sponsors for SRWP TV promotional ads. All ads must promote
a basic message of protecting the Sacramento River watershed and, keeping within that theme, sponsors promote their own programs and services. Generic SRWP watershed protection spots are also produced every year without News10 branding. These are distributed
to TV stations outside of the News10 viewing area to be run as PSAs.

4. Develop Sacramento Watershed Information Model (SWIM)
[More info] |
The SRWP is taking the existing Western Shasta RCD WIM and expand it to the entire Sac River Watershed. WIM is a GIS map-based website interface where web users can use maps to access watershed data, reports, and other information. In parallel the
Sacramento River Watershed Portal (on-line library) will be built.

Partner:
Local watershed organizations
Jan. 2006 – Dec. 2008
Currently in Phase I of SWIM. Expect to launch beta version of SWIM on SRWP website in Nov. 2006. Expect to finish Phase I about Jan. 2007 which is when Phase II expected to start.
Phase 1 (funded and in process): Build SWIM for the entire Sac. River Watershed.
Funding Source:
Phase 1: EPA/SRCSD funds for seed money
Funding Amount:
$60K
Phase 2: Expand SWIM and populate it with electronic data, reports and other resources for the areas within the Sacramento River watershed not currently covered. Provide mini grants to watershed organizations to collect the resources and data.

Phase 2: CALFED Prop 50 Grant, administered by DWR
Funding Amount:

| 5. River of Words Competition |
Since 2001 the SRWP has dedicated funds to support a regional River of Words (ROW) competition. ROW is an international K-12 art and poetry competition that is focused on rivers and waterways. The SRWP has coordinated with ROW to provide teacher trainings
and a second round of judging for entries submitted by students in the Sacramento River watershed. Winners are selected in four grade categories that will reward excellence in art and poetry celebrating the rivers, streams, watersheds, and the inhabitants.

Funding Source:
EPA/SRCSD Phase X & Prop 50 CALFED Watershed Program
Funding Amount:
Est. cost for coordination = $6,500/year
Funded through Dec. 2007
There was not a 2006 ROW competition because the state ROW office only provided the SRWP with entries from a tiny fraction of the watershed and disposed of the rest before the SRWP discovered the mistake. Mary Lee Knecht is working with ROW staff to ensure
that for the 2007 competition, the SRWP receives all entries from the Sacramento River Watershed area.
6. GLOBE Curriculum
GLOBE is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program. GLOBE provides the opportunity to learn by conducting field monitoring of the atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land cover, report their data through the
Internet, create maps and graphs to analyze data sets, and collaborate with scientists and other GLOBE students around the world. By promoting GLOBE throughout the watershed, the SRWP helps students better understand how climate, soils, hydrology, and
land cover affect the health of the Sacramento River Watershed.

9. SRWP Website & E-Newsletter
The SRWP has been developing its website into a virtual watershed resource center where people can go to obtain information on local watersheds. Links provided through the SRWP website help connect people to their local watersheds and has limited links
to reports and other resources. The SRWP started e-mailing out a bi-weekly electronic newsletter in the spring 2004. With the incorporation of SWIM and the Sacramento River Watershed portal in late 2006, the SRWP website will become and even more useful
reference and networking resource.

The SRWP webmaster, Chuck, continuously updates the SRWP website with new information. The website is being redesigned and the redesigned website will be launched in conjunction with the launch of SWIM Phase I in May 2007. |
10. Rural Residential Development Initiative
The SRWP is investigating a role for itself in educating Sacramento River Watershed stakeholders and decision makers about the rate at which agricultural and grazing land is being converted to low density urban land uses (1 – 20 acre parcels) and the
impacts of that conversion.

11. Don’t Plant a Pest Brochure

12. Develop New Sections of SRWP Website on Invasive Plants and Other Ag-Related Issues
The SRWP has dedicated portions of its website to several topics such as monitoring, public education, mercury. For these established topics the SRWP has developed quite a bit of content. As the SRWP begins doing work in the area of invasive plants
and any other ag-related topics, it needs to develop content on those topics and track down web links it should include on its website related to that topic.

13. Interactive On-Line Creek Restoration Permit Assistance Guide
The SRWP will develop an interactive on-line permit assistance guide that will be publicly accessible on its website. This guide will be an educational tool that would inform project proponents of the permits that may be required
for their project. The on-line guide will include hyperlinks to the websites of the permitting agencies where project proponents can obtain more detailed information and agency contacts. |

14. Pyrethroid Fact Sheets
SRWP is interested in funding the development of information bulletins for “industry” on our current state of knowledge in the area of pyrethroids in the urban setting. These bulletins would be very clear that pyrethroids in urban runoff is an evolving
issue. One 2-page bulletin would be aimed at urban stormwater program managers and regulators. The other 2-page bulletin would be aimed at pesticide control operators.

15. Needs Assessment with Local Health Depts. and Stakeholder Groups on Fish Contamination Issues
DHS conducted a series of needs assessment with county agencies and community-based groups in five counties (Sacramento, San Joaquin, Lake, Placer, and Yolo). The overall goal was to identify fish-consuming populations and assess community needs for
conducting future outreach and education.

16. Background Information for a Central Valley Fish Consumption Study
In order to support the development of a fish consumption study for the Bay-Delta watershed, a relational database was assembled of creel survey and fish tissue mercury concentrations. The creel data came from CDFG and fish tissue mercury concentrations
from various sources. A geographic information system was also created containing the creel survey and fish tissue mercury data, which facilitated selection of sites and communities for fish consumption study and exposed gaps in knowledge and data for
fish tissue mercury concentrations.

17. Outreach, Education, and Training Activities Related to Mercury Contamination of Fish in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta
Initiate several activities that will raise public awareness about mercury contamination of fish caught in the watershed and ways to reduce exposure to mercury. Also, promote coordination among DTMC participants on public outreach and education, and
professional capacity building. Specific activities include: catalog existing mercury public outreach materials, create a mercury outreach and training committee of the DTMC, and develop outreach and training materials.
