  • County officials provide update on early fall algae bloom

    County officials noted the presence of a different species of blue-green algae in the lower and Oaks Arms of Clear Lake this month as part of the County’s increased monitoring and mitigation activities. Scott De Leon, director of the County’s Public Works Department and Water Resources, reported that Water Resources staff has been on the lake throughout the summer performing regular water monitoring activities and the presence of a different species at this time is not surprising.

    Clear Lake is suffering from a particularly putrid algal bloom that has created a sewer-like stench. “We are having a cyanobacteria bloom,” said Carolyn Ruttan, invasive species program coordinator for the Lake County Water Resources Department.
